On August 9, 2025, the Massey University China Alumni Conference 2025 was grandly held at the Cordis Hotel in Auckland, New Zealand, under the theme “Focus on Massey, Create a New Chapter Together”. The event brought together nearly 200 Massey University Chinese alumni from around the world, along with distinguished guests from the fields of education, business, and culture.
The conference was presented by G.J. Gardner Homes and organized by JP Media, with strong support from institutions and companies including Chinese Herald, Chance Immigration and Education, Plaxo Mortgages, Pacific Education, NZSEG, Shanxi Agricultural University, GreenPanda, Webb’s, and Jadcup. It served as an important platform to showcase alumni achievements and promote China–New Zealand exchanges.
Amid warm applause, the conference was hosted by Alex Zhang, Board Member of the Massey University China Alumni Association. Distinguished speakers included Dr. Tere McGonagle-Daly, Executive Deputy Vice-Chancellor of Massey University; Grant Smith, Mayor of North Parnell, New Zealand; Chen Shijie, Consul General of China in Auckland; Michael Zhang, Consul General of New Zealand in Guangzhou; and Lu Nan, Member of Parliament for New Zealand’s National Party. Their speeches reflected on the achievements of China–New Zealand educational exchanges and looked forward to future opportunities for collaboration. MUCA Vice President Peng Ping and President Wang Gang introduced the members of the Alumni Association Board and delivered the President’s Report, summarizing the achievements of the past year and outlining plans for the future.
At the conference, the Massey University Alumni Service Awards were presented to recognize alumni who had made outstanding contributions to alumni engagement and social impact. Several distinguished alumni were also invited to share their insightful experiences and successes across business, culture, and philanthropy, enriching the event with inspiring stories.
During the dinner segment, several guests delivered speeches, followed by spectacular violin and face-changing performances that brought the evening to a thrilling climax.
The conference concluded with a closing speech by Dr. Tere McGonagle-Daly. Moving forward, MUCA will continue to uphold the philosophy of “Connecting China and New Zealand, Connecting Cultures, Connecting Trust”, promoting education, business, and cultural exchanges, serving Massey alumni worldwide, and jointly writing a new chapter of excellence.
